Required Question
Personally I feel like this was the most challenging yet successful project I've done by far, this project is the "Self-Portrait". When we first were told about the project and what we could do with it I immediately wanted to do the zombie but when I made the list I decided that I didn't want that and I didn't want to do the expression one either. The only thing left was mechanical I struggled to think of what I wanted to do with this until I started thinking. I came up with a sewing machining and then I had to come up with what I wanted to do with it and I decided to tear apart into pieces. My piece was original because when you mention mechanical you're first instinct a sewing machining and many people wouldn't draw their faces torn apart ready to be sewed back together. I feel like one of the most challenging thing in this piece was drawing the pieces of my face in point perspective because after I did the outline of the piece I had to figure out how to draw the features in. Drawing hair was also a challenge because I still don't completely understand how to draw it and make it look realistic. Another challenge I found during this piece was what I wanted to with the background so it wasn't all white but also so I didn't take too much much attention from the pieces of my face, at the end I decided to make it a would look. Overall I'm very proud of the outcome I just wish I had darkened up a bit more the wood.
Question #3
The 2 mini lessons that helped me the most throughout this semester were the shading and the facial features. I feel like the shading helped me the most and that"s what I improved the most because in the beginning of the class I wasn't really good. I knew I concept like one side had to be dark and it got lighter as it got to the other side which is where the light hit but I didn't know how to transition properly. By knowing that it helped me when we started learning about values in white. I find drawing in white more harder than drawing in pencil but I've also improved on which has helped. The other thing that I think has helped me is learning how to draw facial features because in the beginning of the year I didn't even know how to draw a nose. I can draw a nose now I still find one of the hardest things to draw but I really have improved on that. I've improved in all the features in general and that's helped a lot specially when had to draw the "Self -Portrait" but if I could get more practice it would be much better.
Question #4
This is the scratchboard project that Viridiana did, her piece is original because it all just looks so realistic. When you look at it you don't know where to look first, your eyes just look everywhere among the piece because of the reality of it and the details. It's original because of the message behind it which is how years go by so fast and the young girl is just enjoying life. I can tell this took a long time to do because of the details and how it all looks so realistic. Everything looks so realistic and the girl looks even more realistic because of the values on her skin and the dress she's wearing with the the folds. I feel like this piece shows how much she has improved throughout this semester.
