Animal Portrait
Final Landscape
This is my final project and I'm going to start off by saying this project really took me the longest time. Although it did take me a long time with more than 2 weeks of not going to lunch with my friends it was totally worth it because I’m really happy my results. First with my craftsmanship I think it was pretty neat or at least I tried to keep it as neat as I could. It was pretty hard to keep most of my lines precise because as usual I did most of my painting with just the use of a palette knife. I really think I did a good job with excecuting my project especially with the fact I really struggled to do the sidewalk/pavement due to the perspective which I’m not so good at getting it right. I also think I did a good job with my color choices and how I changed the color of the sky from blue to purple and making more than a couple colors more vibrant to bring more attention like the color of the church.
While I think have done a good job throughout this whole process and I did many difficulties like the sidewalk/ pavement which I already mentioned. Like getting the perspective was the hardest thing to do specially doing the lines that were going further away. Also with the trees because I wanted to show how some were closer than others and the ones in front of the church kind of overlapped so it was hard due to they were all green but I added on different shades of green, yellows, whites even some reds to show where there was a shadow and show each individual tree. Just like my bird studies when I was doing the sky I really felt like I was frosting a cake once again but with this Im many parts I didn’t finish the sky so at the very end I had to go back and be very careful and part around parts of the city in which I had already done.

Still Life (Not Finished)
Even though this was just a practice I really enjoyed this assignment. This is the first assignment in which I've really used a paint brush when using oil paint and I'm happy I did because it gave me more practice .
Oil Fruit
For this assignment, we were to practice painting fruits one using a paint brush and the other using a palette knife.
Bird Studies Final
I have already taken painting class so instead of doing the Hundertwasser painting with the rest of the class I had the option to either do glass studies or bird studies. I ended up choosing to bird studies which I'm glad I ended up doing. The medium I chose to do it in was oil paint and I decided to challenge myself by doing the whole painting with just the use of a palette knife.
I first started with doing the background that way when I started the actual bird it wouldn't have to worry about painting between it. When I did the background I really felt like I was frosting a cake because I did so many layers of paint to get the texture I wanted with various shades of blue and white. Also for the background I added in like flowers so it wouldn't just be a blue background, the flowers I chose to do them as pink and purple. As for the stems of the flowers I used various greens and I used white to show where the light hits.
When I began the bird I first began painting the eye and from there I knew where to place everything. I added some pink and some white in the eye to show a reflection of the flowers. I painted the left side of the bird lighter than the right that way to show which side further away. When adding the different colors onto the bird I tried transitioning the colors while trying to get the colors to get muddy. In the wings I also incorporated some purples and reds to add values.
Overall with this project I really enjoyed doing it even though it was very time consuming. I'm happy I took my time because it came out better than what I first had in mind. Although one thing I would change would be added more flowers into the background and defining more the stems I already have.

”Day Outdoors” Watercolor Final
1. What watercolor techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and Why?
The technique in which I used the most to help me be successful for my final project was the wet on wet on the water for the pond. It really helped me create the water look effect more than just using the brush. What I did was wet the paper and lightly drop some of the colors that were on the tree that I had done before hand to create some form of reflection.
2. How important was using transparent layers in your painting?
Using transparent layers is really important because after have taken this class before I've learned that getting dark is really easy to do when trying to lighten up a section is hard. It may take time to work up to the color and darkness of a color you want but at the end it is worth all the layers.
3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principles of design? Explain.
I do think my composition was overall successful although I do which I wouldn't have left so much space. I feel like my painting over all looks awkward with all the open space especially towards the bottom right because there is a unbalance. I tried creating values changes in the background for the trees but I was really hard considering they were over lapping and they were different colors and I knew if I added too much it would get muddy easily so I stuck to the safer side and didn't do much there. For the grass and underneath the bushes I added some reds and purples to create some shadows because I didn't just want to use straight up brown.
4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Why?
Color is and was a important factor in making this successful especially the blending and learning to not simply use the colors straight out of the tube. Also using colors that you wouldn't normally find is important like how I added reds and purples to create shadows.
5. Describe your craftsmanship.
I feel like my craftsmanship wasn't the best I could have done, I know personally I could of done better especially in adding more details and creating a more realistic look. I think I did a good job with the water and creating a reflecting considering that it was the first time in which I painted water.
6. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why?
If I were to do something different I wish I wouldn't have given up towards the very end and finished doing the plants to close up all the open space I left. I would have added more details onto the ground and everything in general. Maybe if I had done that to begin with I would be more pleased with my final result.
7. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art.
Watercolor, well I learned its not my favorite medium to work with because I feel like I have no control with what I'm doing. With water color you just have to let the paint do its own thing and layer multiple colors is hard especially when trying to keep your painting from getting muddy in the process. Although I dislike watercolor, its where I learned from the previous class to find colors that I wouldn't normally find. Also planning where lights and darks are going to go is really important.

Practice with Prisma Color Pencils (In Process)
In class, we were given small picture of a fruit or vegetable to draw using Prisma color pencils as our medium. This assignment was to practice recreate the picture and find colors in the picture that you would normally not find.
Assessment Drawings
The assessment drawings were assigned to the class in order to have a insight of our abilities. For the drawing we weren't allowed to use any reference pictures; the drawings included your hand, 2 point perspective street, a animal, and a tree in a landscape.
